Artificial sweeteners are sugar substitutes widely preferred for two reasons - because it helps cut weight by not adding calories and has no effect on blood sugar levels, making it also perfect for diabetics. Which is why, they are often known as zero-calorie sugar substitutes or diabetic sugar substitutes. Though these sugar substitutes are made from sugar and taste as sweet as sugar, they do not affect health in any way. Also unlike sugar, Zero-calorie sweeteners don't cause tooth decay.

Sucralose is one of the most popular sugar substitutes used. Sucralose is manufactured from sucrose, or table sugar. The body doesn't recognize sucralose as a carbohydrate and hence doesn't digest it like sugar. And since the body isn't able to use it for energy, no calories are consumed.

Sucralose based artificial sweeteners are ideal to make a meal healthy, nutritious and palatable. It is approximately 600 times sweeter than sugar, so very little of it is needed to sweeten foods. Also it can be safely consumed by all people without any harmful effects including pregnant women, breast feeding mothers, children and people with diabetes. For diabetic patients, artificial sweeteners are a real boon since it allows them to enjoy sweet taste of food without fear of increasing blood levels.
